Social Media CPR - Revamping for the Holidays
You may be asking us why? Maybe you’re thriving on Twitter and feel like that original Facebook page isn’t worth the effort anymore. We get it. Changing algorithms make staying on top of your social media game difficult, especially if your main content creation is focused elsewhere.
You never know who is looking for you or where they’re looking. Stretching your presence across a number of socials ensures you’re covering all of your bases. On top of that it may help you regain fans on that platform that might have moved elsewhere. It’s a hard pill to swallow, we know, but don’t get fan migration get you down! They can always come back.
So let’s take this as a chance to breathe some life into your abandoned socials and greet new fans in the process.
Initial revamping
- Rebranding
If you’re considering a rebrand, even if the changes are as small, make all of those before you start posting again. New profile pictures, cover photos, and bios should be updated before you bring your socials back to life. We like to think of it as spring cleaning.
- Addressing your fans
As with all relationships, communication is key! Don’t shy away from being transparent with your fans. Hitting them with a simple, “It’s so good to be back!” is more than enough to greet them and get the ball rolling.
We recommend not hammering them with apologies either. Thank them for their patience, greet them excitedly, apologies can dome later.
- Connect with your peers
Reach out to your friends in the social media space and let them know about your return. No one makes a better hype crowd than your community right? Ask if they can share your return to their audiences and start getting engaged with them. Interacting with your peers also increases your use of your socials, your engagement, and likely get your excitement up as well. You’ll no longer be yelling into the void!
This can also extend do some of your diehard fans. Remember that cool person tweeting at you way back when? Reach out to them with a thanks and show off your accessibility!
Sustainability
It may be hard to get back into the swing of your socials and that’s okay.
- Diversify your content
Not everything has to be perfect. Post behind the scenes (#BTS) or work in progress (#WIP) shots. These let your fans into your day-to-day and make for great engaging content. Plus having little things to share will distract from any other mini-breaks you might take.
- Plan your posts
Sites like Buffer and Hootsuite are designed to make your social media goals easier and attainable. It’s okay if you don’t have time at 5PM every weekday to make a tweet, let these platforms do it for you! Predictability reigns true when it comes to social media so even if you can only schedule a few posts at a time that’s much better than nothing at all.
- Collaborations
Remember those peers we mentioned reconnecting with? Consider planning some social media tactics with them to get you back in the game. Maybe you’re just hanging out for pizza or maybe you have a secret project in the works-- even just a taste of what’s going on will not only interest your fans but your friends’ fans as well.
- When all else fails go back to the basics
We know that hashtags like #MotivationMonday and #ThrowbackThursday seem cheesy but they’re persistent because they work. If you really aren’t sure what to do try going back to the basics and see what that may inspire.
Last but not least make a plan and stick to it! A plan helps you stay on top of your goals and keep committed. Consider how much time you’re willing to put into checking, updating, and responding on your socials? How many more followers do you want to achieve? What’s a reasonable speed to get to this goal? All of these questions will help you figure out the right things for you.
