THE BASICS
What inspires your work?
My work is inspired by women, burlesque, vintage toys, candies… the things that I like in a regular day, I’m always trying to communicate an idea in order for people smile or get inspired - that's the main objective!
What's your creative process when creating a new design?
First I start thinking on what I like, any idea that is current in my day; I play music, and I start sketching on blank pages, whatever comes to my mind. Then I'll get set for vectorization.
How would you describe your design aesthetic/style?
A retro pop style with with a cherry on top!
T-SHIRT DESIGN
Where did your artist name come from?
Lady Love is my sticker tag from when I starting doing street art 16 years ago. At that time in Mexico city there weren't so many girls doing this, so I thought in a sarcastic way that I needed a "street woman name.”
What do you like most about being a designer?
I like that people recognize my style and that I have been recognized as a professional several times. I love what I do!
How did you come into t-shirt design?
I had been working for a company that prints shirts, and I realized that's the best way to communicate: wearing a t-shirt design. The best ones are the ones independent designers do!
What are your favorite 2 designs of yours?
"Batusi Girl." She represents all the girl power I needed to be brave and become a freelance illustrator. And the most recent one that I uploaded, "Big Girl" - it's the way I feel today after making several achievements, like collaborating with the brand Crayola!
Is there anyone in the design community that you collaborate with?
Yes, I did a collaboration with Nooworks in San Francisco, CA. [Editor's note: we want everything on this website!]
FUN STUFF
What movies/shows/books/music/podcasts are you really into right now?
I'm into series like Stranger Things, Riverdale, and Sabrina. Music is an important ingredient of my work, I must set a playlist. Either rockabilly or big band genre for sketching, and on a daily basis I'm a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt, Garbage, Ladytron, and Tegan and Sara (my top 5, basically).
What three things would you bring with you to a deserted island?
Assuming that there is no electric energy on the island, I would take my beloved couple of parrots (they would for sure enjoy a deserted island), my stuff for sketching, and a solar powered radio! Then I'll figure it out if I can make a TV set with the coconuts and palms!
What animal do you relate to the most, and why?
I wish it was a flamingo, but I think I'm more like a macaw: talkative, brave, creative, and colorful!
What's your favorite tee you own?
An original tour t-shirt I bought once in a musicians' market from a guy who was selling shirts from the Smashing Pumpkins 1996 tour - for $3!
Tell us a bit about your side projects!
One of my more recent and important side projects is my shop! It’s named Grosella, my boyfriend and I just opened it in February. Grosella is a spot where you can find vintage cool stuff, from vinyls, retro toys, delicious candies, and all kinds of Lady Love stuff! Merch, pins, mugs, shirts... you name it!
