How To: Prep your Podcast Store for the Holidays

TeePublic

If you have a podcast and are reading this, chances are good that you have considered or already have a merch store set up for your podcast. As we approach the holiday season, you are probably wondering when and how you should promote your storefront.

At TeePublic, we have worked with podcasts of all sizes from independent podcasts with only a few dozen listeners to podcasts like Stuff You Should Know or How Did This Get Made with millions of monthly downloads. In a world full of doorbusters and hectic holiday shopping, it can be tough to make a splash, though.

In our years of working with podcasts, we have learned that just a few small things will really make the difference for your sales during this hectic season. Check them out below!

Episode Description Links

Putting your store link into your show description will be the primary success driver for your promotions. Since podcasting is an audio-driven form of entertainment, even if you mention your store link during a show folks won’t necessarily follow the link you mention. Putting a link your storefront in your episode description (the higher in the caption, the better!) will give your fans an easy way to find your merch. In our experience, these mentions make such a difference that there is almost no benefit to talking about your merch without it!

In-Show Mentions

As we mentioned before, there’s little point to having a storefront unless your fans know about it. The best place to tell them is the one place they all have in common: your podcast. Your fans tune in to listen to you because they love your content, and they want to engage with you. If you can, talk through your storefront with them; invite them to engage with you, and thank them for supporting the show. Don’t sell--invite your fans to be a part of your fan club and have them show that fandom off with your amazing designs. That way, your fans can give back to you and know that every purchase they make goes to support you directly.

Socials

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough space to mention all the ways social media can help you promote  Social media is where your fans engage with you outside of the podcast; it’s also where they can come directly to you to tell you how much they appreciate your storytelling. Talk to them about designs here and get them to send you photos of themselves decked out in their new merch. Make sure your promotions are in your voice and match your brand. If you tend to be more polished when you promote, make sure your images match that feel. Conversely, if you tend to be a bit more off the cuff, promote your merch in the same way.

As to which promotions work best, nothing beats a little self-promotion. Take photos of yourself in the merch. Wear it with pride and show your fans how much it means to have their support. If you need help with creative, we have Ad Templates  here and your partner manager is always around should you need help figuring out what promotions will work best for you.

We hope this guide helps you feel more confident about promotion for your podcast going into the holiday season! Good luck!
